What Is Food For Life ?
Hare Krishna Food For Life is a non profit organization that provides free nutritious vegetarian meals (known as prasadam) to the needy. It is the welfare arm of the Hare Krishna movement ( ISKCON ). Food for Life has been established since 1980 and currently operates in every major city and country in the world serving over 1.5 million free meals worldwide every day.
The goal of each Food for Life centre, as established by the founder of ISKCON and Food for Life , His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, is that no one should go hungry within a 15 km radius of anywhere that Hare Krishna devotees live.
Who Runs Food For Life Northland?
I am 48 years old . Married to Suvarna . Lived in Northland for 20 years. Have been practicing the teachings ofHis Divine Grace Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and the Hare Krishna Movement for 30 years. My interests and passions are spiritual life , music , and cooking! Firmly believe in the words of my spiritual master that “simply by the liberal distribution of prasadam ( sanctified vegetarian foodstuffs ) and of the Hare Krsna maha mantra ( chanting of Hare Krishna mantra ) the whole world can become peaceful and happy.”
In addition to providing free nutritious meals, Food for Life provides cooking and nutrition education programmes for the benefit of the health of the community. Food for Life is also actively involved in large scale food relief for natural and man made disasters, e.g FFL was present in Christchurch during the earthquakes providing meals for up to 500 people a day.
How Is It Funded? Who Pays For All The Food?
All the food is donated, or purchased with donated funds. Food for Life volunteers provide the manpower for cooking and the distribution. No one receives any wage, salary, or money at all. The project is organized by devotees of Krishna and the work done is in service to Krishna (God). The more food we are donated the more people we can feed.
What can I do to help the project? You can donate fruit or vegetables , goods, money , and/or time or services (volunteers) .

Your Donations Is Our Lifeblood
We provide lunches for decile 1 school children providing them with necessary nutrition and support for growing minds and bodies. We rely on the generous donations of food, money, time, and skills to do this.
Lunches cost just $2 each per child and schools are asked to pay $1 towards this. This leaves $1 that we have to come up with to cover the costs.
Imagine spending just $1 and having a child get a nutritious meal right here to NZ!
